In 2010, my roommates from college wanted to try something different, a triathlon! I didn't know how to swim, had to borrow a bike, but could run. After my first sprint race, I was hooked! I took swim lessons and began to understand the lifestyle of the sport.
At grad school at Cleveland State University, I joined the university's triathlon club. I learned a lot from the coach & competed. I slowly began to learn more about coaching triathlon and then after I graduated, became the Assistant Coach for the CSU tri club + for my coach's triathlon company. At that time I did get certified as a USA Triathlon Level 1 Coach.
Life happened - I stayed with triathlon, but stepped away from the coaching aspect. I became highly involved in the Cleveland Triathlon Club (general board position, then Secretary) and Snakebite Racing (Vice President, then President). These roles helped me understand the organization part of clubs/teams even more. I have competed in races from sprint to IM distance. My favorite triathlon distance is the 70.3.
The past few years, I have been getting into trail running & ultras. I enjoy being 'lost' in the woods any time of the year.
What I enjoy about coaching are those 'ah ha' moments athletes get! It's a great opportunity to coach - to see when things click with an athlete, to see them get stronger, + when they keep gaining that personal confidence!
